As the national trade group representing the U.S. casino industry, the American Gaming Association (AGA) advocates for a policy and business environment conducive to the flourishing of legal, regulated gaming. The AGA’s diverse membership, consisting of commercial and tribal casino operators, sports betting and iGaming companies, and gaming suppliers, leads the $329 billion industry, supporting 1.8 million jobs across the country. Recent AGA research further confirms that the positive economic impact of gaming is widely acknowledged by Americans, with a record-breaking 71 percent of adults acknowledging the casino gaming industry’s positive influence on the U.S. economy.
The study reveals that the U.S. commercial and tribal gaming industry:
Contributes a staggering $328.6 billion to the U.S. economy annually.
Supports 1.8 million jobs, providing $104 billion in wages and salaries nationwide.
Generates an impressive $52.7 billion in tax revenue for federal, state, and local governments.
“The U.S. gaming industry contributes not only to economic growth but also to the very fabric of communities. It provides significant tax revenue, creates robust employment opportunities, supports local small businesses, and funds essential community initiatives,” stated AGA President and CEO Bill Miller during his State of the Industry address at G2E 2023.
To put this into perspective within the broader U.S. economy:
Gaming offers more direct jobs than the air transportation, postal service, or motion picture and video sectors combined.
Direct casino employment constitutes 1 in every 33 jobs in the leisure and hospitality sector.
The $53 billion in taxes generated by the gaming industry plays a pivotal role in funding local public programs and services, including education, infrastructure, economic development, and supplements state general funds.
