Yesterday, during the Brazil’s Independent Games (BIG) Festival, Guilherme Fernandes, Market Consultant, Newzoo, presented an excellent report: A Spotlight on the Brazilian Games Market – Key Numbers and Trends. The document divulged exclusive, relevant data from that huge market, the #1 in Latin America and #12 in the world regarding gaming revenue in 2021.
The country has 94.7 million gamers, passionate about adventure titles on all platforms. At the end of the year, this market will see US$2.3 billion in revenue (+5.1% year-over-year). In Brazil, mobile gaming encompasses 47% of the market (representing US$1.075 billion in revenue, +11.8% y-o-y), while console gaming has 29% (US$657 million), and PC gaming, 24% (US$556 million).
Considering prices of gaming PCs and consoles are high, 70% of Brazilian players have turned into mobile gaming. According to Newzoo, as of last year, half of both Brazilian men and women play mobile games, while roughly 40% of men and women play PC games. In terms of demographics and habits, 49% of gamers are men (32% between 10 and 35 years old), and 51% are women (also 32% in that age range). Besides, 84% of Brazilian gamers play between 3 to 10 hours per week on mobile devices. Despite similar time dedicated to gaming, Brazilian mobile gamers spend less money than their Asian counterparts. The research firm also noted the relative popularity of core games on mobile devices in Brazil. The battle royale is the highest grossing genre for the LatAm region. Newzoo added that mobile drives the global gaming market because hardware is becoming more sophisticated, global mobile/fixed broadband infrastructure is improving, and mobile is the primary means of gaming for certain demographics.
Another segment considered in the study was cloud gaming. The document considers cloud gaming and games subscriptions as the new disruptors in the industry. Most important cloud gaming companies are expanding to LatAm, and investment is increasing. By the end of the year, Newzoo estimates the global cloud gaming market size will be US$1.4 billion.
