A stellar line-up of guest speakers will participate in next Convention of the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (BACTA). The Rt Hon Stuart Andrew MP (Minister for Gambling), Kate Nicholls (CEO UKHospitality), Michael Dugher (CEO Betting and Gaming Council), Andrew Rhodes (CEO UK Gambling Commission), and Miles Baron (CEO Bingo Association) will be some of the relevant executive that will join the November meeting.
The Convention will also offer a presentation from the Bank of England which will outline the latest expert insight on payments trends. This includes what the Bank is doing to protect access to cash, in line with current Government policy.
John White (CEO Bacta) believes that 2023 is one of the most significant years in the history of the trade association. He explained: “I honestly don’t think there’s been a more significant Convention in our history as a representative trade body with huge macro issues to prepare for. This year, we’ve had the long awaited publication of the Government’s White Paper on gambling reform. The outcomes of this document will surely transform the industry. In addition, Bacta has undergone its own head-to-toe restructure in advance of its 50th birthday, which we celebrate next year. Political observers are debating whether we will have a May 2024 or an October 2024 General Election.”
Moreover, he added: “The Convention comes at a perfect time to explore what will be hugely significant issues, challenges and opportunities drawing on the insight and knowledge of our invited guests. Each speaker will have their own unique take on what the future will look like for our sector, with Andrew Rhodes providing the Convention keynote explaining how the Gambling Commission is preparing for the new regulatory landscape.”
November’s Convention will also be the first to take place under the newly configured Bacta. “The final building block was set earlier this month with the election of six members to the new Bacta National Council, with 11 people. The Convention provides an opportunity for members to learn how the new Bacta will be addressing the challenges which lie ahead,” White ended.
