Originally from Siberia (Russia), Victoria Sopko has built a diverse and accomplished career journey. She secured an educational grant that propelled her to complete high school in the USA. With a solid foundation, Victoria pursued higher education, earning dual degrees in International Relations and Linguistics, and later furthered her learning with a focus on Psychology.
In terms of work, her entrepreneurial spirit shone as she operated her own affiliate business for over eight years. It was during this time that her passion for marketing emerged. This enthusiasm prompted her transition into the iGaming sector, where she began as a part of the Marketing team at EvenBet Gaming, a prominent player in the industry. Her professional journey has now led her to the Balkans, where she resides, overseeing the successful development of EvenBet’s regional office as Marketing Project Manager.
LEARNING AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
When asked about her bond to the gaming industry, she says: “I entered the world of iGaming when my love for marketing beckoned me to take a new turn in my career. EvenBet has always stood as an emblem of a modern approach, offering equal opportunities to everyone, regardless of gender, background, or religion. I’ve come a long way from my beginnings as a creative copywriter, now managing significant marketing projects with substantial budgets. Each step along this path has been a tremendous source of learning and personal development.”
The perspective of becoming an overly serious individual in her career has always been an intimidating thought for her. The iGaming industry, on the other hand, has captivated her with its vibrant, lively, and fun atmosphere. It’s the antithesis of the monotony.
Regarding her ideas and her self-description, she shares: “For me, actions do speak louder than words. Responsibility is a trait that runs through all aspects of my life. I’m a big believer in the idea that everyone deserves love and happiness, and I mean that in the broadest sense possible. Everyone should have the chance to chase their dreams, be it in their career, building a family, or any other aspiration. If you’re around me, you’ll find I’m pretty upfront about my beliefs and perspectives. That’s something those close to me always bring up.”
WINDS OF CHANGE FOR WOMEN IN GAMING
An essential aspect in the dialogue with Sopko is the increasing place of women in the industry. Joining EvenBet right from the start turned out to be a stroke of luck for her. In this sense, she punctually details some experiences that she had in her career through the gaming sector. “I didn’t have to encounter any intolerance or inequality in my workplace. However, I distinctly remember a rather unpleasant conversation with some visitors from my first business trip to an iGaming expo. It was about whether women were even worth engaging with and whether they could have meaningful conversations with the decision-makers who were mostly men. That was a few years back. Now, the more I interact within the industry, the less biased attitudes I come across.”
The understanding of the value of women and their enormous contribution to gaming is gradually prevailing in companies. She asserts: “To be completely honest, this year, I haven’t witnessed any such intolerance to women and minorities. On top of that, there’s been a significant surge in women’s projects within the industry, championing and highlighting the ideas and capabilities of women leaders. I actually initiated one of these projects a few years ago. The winds of change are sweeping through the industry, and the transformation is truly inspiring. I’d definitely encourage any young woman venturing into this industry to take the leap.”
PASSION, DETERMINATION AND FAMILY TIME
Of course, not everything is developments and work projects. Having a space for rest and personal evolution is also a key. She confesses that she might not be the ultimate authority on this subject, mainly because she is still finding her way to strike that perfect work-life balance.
On a personal note, she observed that this challenge somewhat stems from her own strong passion for what she does. When she dives into a project with such determination, it’s tough to set strict time limits because she is fully immersed and excited to explore every facet. Yet, in the weekends, she says her focus is entirely on her family, and they become her priority, capturing all of her thoughts and energy.
STAYING ACTIVE AND PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
Hobbies and interests are also a huge part of people’s life. Victoria is not an exception. But what activities do she like the most? She answers our question in her own words: “Languages have always captivated me. Currently, I’m learning Serbian and Spanish, with plans to tackle Korean next year. My new fascination with Korean cuisine is the driving force. Beyond that, I strongly believe in staying active. I’ve dedicated around 15 years to dancing and several years to aerobics and tennis. Now that I reside in the world’s tennis hub (Belgrade, Serbia), I couldn’t resist picking up the racket again. My dog also plays a significant role in my life. We spend a lot of time together. As the evening rolls around, Netflix takes center stage. Let’s face it, they know how to make shows!”
Looking ahead to the next couple of years, Victoria’s career aspirations involve taking that next significant stride. She is aiming for larger projects and an even more globally diverse team. On the personal front, her plans involve “continuing my journey of exploring the world, extracting the finest experiences it has to offer,” she concludes, focusing her clear eyes on the horizon.
