It is essential that the members of the world lottery community periodically come together to help create the road map that will lead the sector to an inspiring future.

Under the motto Leading the journey. Inspiring the future, on October 16-20, the World Lottery Association (WLA) and the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) have once again joined forces for the World Lottery Summit 2022 (WLS),

with the organisational backing of host lottery the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). The international lottery industry will be meeting in Vancouver, Canada, to look forward for innovative products and technologies, and have a first-rate opportunity to network.

The WLA’s World Lottery Summit is the biennial event coordinated on each continent by a relatively young association, founded in 1999, made up of the lottery operators, WLA partners, and their suppliers worldwide. The Vancouver Convention Centre, with its more than 40,000 square meters of flexible function space, is one of Canada’s largest conferences venues. Located in one of the most breath-taking parts of the city, the centre is sure to set an inspirational tone for WLS 2022.

About the activities, the WLS will comprise Plenary Sessions, Parallel Sessions, the General Assembly, Accompanying Person Program (tours) and Social Programs (networking), as well as present an exhibition area for relevant lottery providers. Moreover, different advertising awards will take place at the closing dinner on October 19th, 2022. This will include the WLA Advertising Awards, the NASPL Advertising Awards, the WLA RG Awards, and the Jean Jorgensen Awards.

About the importance of responsible gaming, Rebecca Paul Hargrove, President, WLA, told G&M News: “The ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of responsible gaming programs as well as predicting and further understanding potential problem play will become even more important in the future. Gambling operators around the world will be required to adapt to these circumstances and to adjust their programs to any new insights they will get as a result. Because as we all know, the only constant is change, and change is happening even faster in a digitised world.”

As a consequence of this, the WLA Responsible Gaming Awards honor the lottery industry’s most outstanding achievements in consumer protection. The awards have been in place since 2008 and showcase how lotteries strive for continuous improvement. There is a “Best Overall Responsible Gaming Program Award”, which aims to recognise excellence. Additionally, there are several awards which distinguish player protection initiatives and innovations, depending on the maturity of a lottery’s responsible gaming program.
