PLAYERS AND DEVICES
The player base is forecast to reach 3.70 billion (+4.4% YoY), and spenders to be 1.65 billion (+4.7% YoY), with a 44.6% conversion rate. Gen Z remains the largest generation on PC in 2026 while Gen Alpha is rising fastest and expanding their share of the PC player base. Average revenue per spender is USD 129.6 (+1.4% YoY).
Each platform is following a different path. On PC, premium and mid-priced releases remain commercially important as microtransactions regain share. The platform is forecast to generate USD 45.9 billion in 2026 (+5.3% YoY) and has the highest player-to-payer conversion rate at 55%. Console growth is more closely tied to major launches, subscriptions, and higher prices. After a near-stall in 2025, the segment is set to reaccelerate, supported by GTA VI, the Switch 2, and multi-game subscriptions. This device will move USD 46.9 billion in 2026 (+5.1% YoY). On mobile, deeper monetization is supporting revenue growth despite declining downloads. The platform is forecast to generate USD 121.1 billion (+6.8% YoY), maintaining its position as the market’s largest by revenue (57% of the global market). These differences show that growth does not follow a single model. Strategies that work on one platform may not translate directly to another.
REGIONAL GROWTH ADDS ANOTHER LAYER
Emerging regions, particularly the Middle East & Africa, and Latin America, are contributing an increasing share of player growth. The Asia-Pacific region retains the largest player base while the U.S. and China collectively account for 52% of all global consumer spending. Asia-Pacific will be generating USD 100.7 billion in 2026, equivalent to 47% of global revenue and up 6% YoY. North America is projected to generate USD 56.9 billion from 251 million players, while Europe is expected to contribute USD 38.5 billion from 475 million players. Latin America is forecast to produce USD 9.3 billion, growing 7.9% YoY, while the Middle East and Africa will be the fastest-growing region, with revenue rising 10.3% to USD 8.5 billion and its player base growing 7.9% to 640 million.
The regions adding the most players are not necessarily those generating the most revenue, making audience size only one part of the commercial picture.
MOST POPULAR GAMES
On console, GTA VI already tops the Adventure genre on pre-order revenue alone, months ahead of its November launch, while EA Sports FC 26, Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox also featured among the leading titles. Sandbox also appears among the top five genres on both PC and console in H1 2026, with Roblox and Minecraft leading the way. Fortnite holds the top spot in the Shooter category on both PC and console. Mobile’s genre lineup looks different from PC and console: Puzzle (led by Royal Match) and Casino (led by Coin Master) both make the top five, alongside Strategy, Role Playing, and Shooter.
Besides, Grand Theft Auto VI will be a major catalyst for console and overall industry growth. During H1 2026, PC gaming was led across genres by titles including Fortnite, Counter-Strike 2/GO, Valorant, World of Warcraft, Diablo IV, Minecraft and VRChat. Mobile gaming continued to be driven by titles across Puzzle, Strategy, RPG, Shooter and Casino genres, including Royal Match, Candy Crush, Last War: Survival, Pokémon GO, PUBG and Coin Master.
Microtransactions are expected to regain their position as the largest overall business model, although premium and mid-priced releases will continue to sustain full-game revenues.
The games market enters 2026 with positive momentum. As penetration and conversion levels out, sustainable growth will depend more heavily on increasing relationships with existing players. There will also be major game launches and deeper engagement across platforms rather than simply expanding the player base.
