Following the publication of the “Gate to 2050” study last year, well-known iGaming startup Oddsgate is now releasing a documentary that takes a look behind the scenes of one of iGaming’s most comprehensive long-term studies, tracing the project from its earliest beginnings through months of cross-sector collaboration with specialists across numerous fields, including technology, marketing, and the social sciences. More than a recap, the piece makes the case that thinking seriously about iGaming’s future goes well beyond academic exercise, entering the realm of strategic responsibility shared by the entire industry.
It all began at SBC Summit Lisbon 2024, where the company conducted its first interviews before unveiling the initial version of the Gate to 2050 study, a landmark piece of research projecting the future of the iGaming industry over the next 25 years. Now, the company is releasing a documentary that takes audiences behind the scenes of the project, revealing how it came to life and why it matters.
The documentary retraces the full “Gate to 2050” journey: from the internal workshops and early conversations that gave the project its shape, through months of rigorous research and specialist collaboration, to the publication of the printed study and its digital version.
The story behind the vision
Developed in partnership with independent consultancy ALVA Research & Consulting, the “Gate to 2050” study drew on a multifaceted methodology, combining desk research, 200 surveys conducted at SBC Summit Lisbon, and interviews with more than 20 specialists from across the globe. The process spanned several months and engaged voices from every continent, resulting in a truly global perspective on where iGaming is headed.
Wagner Fernandes, Chief Marketing Officer at Oddsgate, explained the ambition behind the initiative by saying: “We wanted to spark a discussion about what comes next, not just what is happening today. Our goal was to contribute valuable content to the community and demonstrate that we’re not only delivering software but also helping shape the future of the industry through meaningful conversations.”
Looking beyond immediate industry trends was central to the project’s philosophy. As António Alvarenga, Founder & CEO at ALVA, explained: “While we cannot predict the future, we have enough knowledge to systematically discuss it. By bringing the future into the present, we can make decisions today that help build a resilient, sustainable industry that creates value for both businesses and the wider community.”
A cross-sector cast of voices
More than 20 experts and industry leaders contributed to the study, representing fields including technology, hardware, software, marketing, social sciences, and strategic foresight. The research itself explored 21 future variables related to artificial intelligence, biometrics, regulatory compliance, cryptocurrencies, quantum computing, the metaverse, and emerging payment methods, always in relation to the broader forces reshaping the world of iGaming.
The documentary brings these contributors into focus, highlighting the cross-disciplinary collaboration that made the study possible and offering audiences a deeper appreciation of the collective effort that brought it to life.
Knowledge beyond technology
The release of this documentary reflects Oddsgate’s commitment to contributing to the iGaming industry in ways that go beyond platform development. Conceived as a resource to encourage structured thinking about the future, the “Gate to 2050” project embodies Oddsgate’s belief that innovation is driven not only by technology but also by knowledge, collaboration, and meaningful industry dialogue. The newly released documentary continues that mission by offering audiences an inside look at the people and process behind the ambitious study.
Oddsgate has long held that building the future of iGaming requires the kind of structured, collective thinking that the industry rarely makes time for. The “Gate to 2050” initiative was conceived as a contribution to exactly that: a resource that moves the conversation beyond what is happening today and toward what the industry should be preparing for. The documentary extends that same intent, putting faces and context to the research and inviting the wider industry into a discussion that is only just beginning.
The “Gate to 2050” documentary is now available to watch on Oddsgate’s YouTube channel, while the complete study can be downloaded for free from the company’s website.
